Creative writing is often not taught formally until the college-level, and yet so many students are drawn to it far earlier than that. In our Writing Competition preparatory class, students can develop and strengthen their creative writing skills - be it fiction, life writing, poetry, drama, or even nontraditional essay writing - through personalized lessons designed to hone their craft. We match students with regional and national writing competitions we think they can succeed in, and then work with them every step of the way to develop, write, and revise their pieces for submission. Every year, our students receive recognitions from notable contests including the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and the YoungArts.
Engaging in writing competitions can provide high school students with an excellent opportunity to enhance their writing skills, garner accolades, prepare for college-level writing, cultivate personal growth, and develop self-assurance in their writing abilities. Our team of writing coaches has observed numerous benefits of writing competitively including:"
Improved writing skills: Writing competitions provide opportunities for students to practice their writing and receive feedback from experienced judges. This can help students improve their writing skills and become more confident writers.
Recognition and awards: Winning or placing in a writing competition can be a great accomplishment for students and can lead to recognition and awards. This can be a great addition to a student's college application and help them stand out to admissions officers.
College readiness: Writing competitions can help prepare students for college-level writing assignments and expectations. This can be particularly beneficial for students who plan to pursue majors or careers that require strong writing skills.
Personal growth: Participating in writing competitions can be a great opportunity for personal growth and self-expression. It can help students develop their unique voice and gain confidence in their ability to express themselves through writing.
Community building: Many writing competitions provide opportunities for students to connect with other writers and professionals in the writing industry. This can be a great way for students to build relationships and network with like-minded individuals.
